“When I looked in the mirror, I hated what I saw.” Chanelle was consumed by self-hatred. She felt lost and misunderstood, like she was searching for answers she could never find.

“There were times where I would try to just imagine myself in the future and I couldn’t. It was just black.” Hopelessness ate away at her, leaving Chanelle with a gaping hole inside.

My future was black.

She ran to her addictions—drugs, alcohol, guys—to try to fill the void. “The hole just got bigger,” she said. Her life was like a battlefield, shame and addiction fighting for control, until one day Chanelle’s dad asked her to go to Teen Challenge.
